Social contracts are interactions of behaviors that keep each other going, but often we aren't even aware that we are in one.
They are unspoken and often subtle.
When I work with a client who is engaged in a negative social contract the first question I ask is, "How are you supporting and upholding that behavior?"
We may spend a lot of time trying to stop the other person from doing something without seeing how we are contributing to the cycle.
